Fort Donelson Day Trip

Join the Tennessee State Museum on a day trip to
Fort Donelson National Battlefield • Saturday June 4th

Come join the Tennessee State Museum on a day trip to Fort Donelson National Battlefield and leave the driving to us. See where Naval Flag Officer Andrew Foote’s gunboats rained fire and iron down on the Confederates defending the fort in 1862. Learn about the rise of Brig. General Ulysses S. Grant and the origin of his unique nickname, “Unconditional Surrender” Grant. Listen to TSM Education Specialist Richard White describe how it all came crashing down and the heartland of Tennessee was opened up for the Union advance directly into Nashville.
We will include stops at the remains of the old fort, National Cemetery, and the Dover Inn, site of General Simon B. Buckner’s surrender.
Lunch to follow at Liberty Park Grill in Clarksville next to the Cumberland River.

Early bird registration $45 until May 21, and $50 afterwards. The cost covers bus transportation, water and snacks on the bus, and lunch. The tour and commentary is FREE.
