Tennessee State History Patch

Image: Tennessee State History PatchEarn a patch by learning about Tennessee history. Based on their age levels, students must visit the Tennessee State Museum and complete the following requirements:

First-Third grades: Do #1 and three others

Fourth-Sixth grades: Do #1 and four others

Seventh-Twelfth: Do #1 and five others

  1. Visit the Tennessee State Museum in downtown Nashville with your group, family or school. Choose the section of Tennessee history during which you would like to have lived and tell your class, troop, or family why.

  2. Find out about an important man or woman in Tennessee history.
  3. Make a list of historic sites in your neighborhood. Plan or guide a tour of one of the sites.
  4. Learn the words to one of the Tennessee state songs.
  5. Find out how Tennessee got the nickname of "Volunteer State."
  6. Preserve one or more old buildings with pictures or photographs. Share it with your group or another group.
  7. Observe someone doing a craft or trade the way it was done in the past. Make a toy, play a game, or learn a dance that one of your ancestors might have enjoyed.
  8. Look up important dates in Tennessee history. Find out why it was important and observe it at a troop meeting, or act out an important event.
  9. Make a scrapbook about Tennessee choosing an event, person, or place.
  10. Find out about your family's history in Tennessee. When did the first family members arrive in Tennessee? Where did they come from?

Once students complete these requirements, patches can be purchased through their organization's office or individuals may purchase the patch by sending a check for $1.50 per patch to the Tennessee State Museum, Attn: History Patch, 505 Deaderick Street, Nashville, TN 37243-1120.
