In his new book, Bones of My Grandfather, Clay Bonnyman Evans tells the remarkable story of his grandfather, Alexander Bonnyman, Jr. Killed on Nov. 22, 1943 in the battle of Tarawa and posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor, Bonnyman Jr.’s remains were not recovered until 2015. Evans presents slides and videos of his grandfather’s remarkable life and the incredible efforts to find him and bring him back home to Tennessee for burial.
Evans currently divides his time between Hilton Head Island, South Carolina and Boulder, Colorado (his hometown). After a long career writing for newspapers such as the Los Angeles Times, he is now a freelance writer and author. He also is a long-distance hiker, having completed the 2,190-mile Appalachian Trail in 2016 and the 486-mile Colorado Trail in 2015.
